Thunder fell in a shootout at ex-EPL outfit Swindon Wildcats in front of a packed house in Wiltshire on Saturday night.

Young forward Rio Grinell-Parke gave Thunder a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes at The Link Centre, only for Swindon to level 26 seconds into the second period through Aaron Nell on the pp.

Ross Bowers restored Thunder’s lead five minutes later but again the home side responded on the power play, this time Sam Zajac finding the net.

Grinell-Parke’s hit his second of the night as the period wound down to give MKT a 3-2 advantage heading into the second intermission.

The Wildcats were on level terms again less than 90 seconds into the third through former Nottingham Panthers forward Sam Bullas.

No further goals meant the teams headed to overtime, and a blank slate there setup a penalty shootout.

Thunder failed to convert all three of their penalty shots as Swindon took the shootout 1-0 to claim a 4-3 win and the bonus point.
