Thunder take the win in Invicta – 14/10/2018

Thunder travelled to Gillingham on Sunday for what turned out to be a tense game, but the lads came home with both points having beaten the Dynamos 3 – 4. Thunder were much the better team on the night and cruised through the opening period to go into the break 0 – 2 up. Ross Bowers opened the scoring with a short handed goal after fifteen minutes before Tomas Rubes scored the second for Thunder shortly before the break.

Another short handed goal, this time well taking by new import defenceman Trevor LeBlanc made it 0 – 3 early in the second. In only his second game in this country, Trevor is already impressing with his skill and speed!

Then a really harsh delay of game call (under the new netminder rules) on Jordan Lawday gave Invicta a chance to get onto the scoresheet with a powerplay goal. More penalty trouble for Thunder allowed the home team to score twice more and level the score at 3 – 3. Thunder must stop taking unnecessary penalties!

Thunder dominated the final period, playing more like they had in the first, but Invicta had found some confidence and held on thinking they could take the game to OT. However, man of the match Tomas Rubes had other ideas and slotted home Thunder’s winner with 23 seconds left to go.

Thunder iced both their new young players, Sean Norris and Sam Talbot. Both impressed and looked an integral part of the team from the off.
