Czech forward Tomas Rubes hit a hat-trick, Michael Stratford bagged two, and Josh Crane made 31 saves as MK Thunder beat Slough Jets 8-1 at Slough Ice Arena.
MKT opened the scoring through Grant McPherson on the powerplay ten minutes in and it was soon 2-0 courtesy of Rubes’ first goal in British hockey.
Liam Underdown hit back on the PP late in the period to cut Thunder’s lead to 2-1 going into the first intermission before goals from Rubes and Stratford gave MKT a 4-1 cushion through 40 minutes.
Stratford added his second five minutes into the final frame with new captain Tom Carlon joining him on the scoresheet a minute later.
Rubes rounded out his hat-trick in the 52nd minute and the final scoreline of 8-1 came to be when Ross Bowers struck with under five minutes to play.
The result gives MKT Head Coach Lewis Clifford two wins from two in the club’s preseason game and sends the team into next week’s NIHL 1 opener at Streatham with 10 goals scored over the weekend and just two conceded.
