We are delighted to announce the signing of forward Joe Edwards from the Oxford City Stars for the remainder of the season. Joe joins us having scored 28 points in 15 games for the Stars this season in NIHL2 and will add some much needed depth to our forward lines as well as providing head coach Lewis Clifford with more options. Edwards, 28 has played the vast majority of his career for his hometown club in Oxford with brief stops at Slough and Basingstoke in the EPL and a previous season with Thunder in 2011-12 when he scored 16 points in 21 games. Joe will make his debut tonight when we take on the Swindon Wildcats at Planet Ice MK. On the signing, coach Clifford made the following comments “I’m really happy to have signed Joe, he will help us a lot in many areas where we are desperate for support, I’m not into giving guys ready made excuses for losses, however we have been playing short benched a lot recently and this has shown in our results and how we fatigue in games, Joe is a skilled guy who can play across the forward lines and add to both our collective skill set and our strength in numbers and I’m looking forward to having him as a part of our team and seeing what he can do in a Thunder shirt.” Joe is equally as excited to make the switch across the Oxon/Bucks border and said “I’m really looking forward to getting on the ice with Thunder, I know a few of the guys from previous seasons so should be a pretty seamless transition. It’s always tough to leave your hometown club but the time is right to try my hand at the higher level. I want to thank the Stars for my time there and wish the boys the best of luck for the rest of the season, I can’t wait to get started.” Joe will be wearing the #66 shirt which is available to sponsor.
